I’ve heard several reports from DroidDog readers (and it’s all over the Internet right now ) that many EVO owners who tap on Settings > System Updates > Firmware Update are prompted to install the official Froyo bump, 3.26.651.6. Alas, I was one of those anxious chaps with ants in my pants that opted for an early install of an unofficial release (without actually understanding the situation). Froyo and other major EVO updates upon us [UPDATED]

UPDATE : It’s official, though the official rollout start date is August 3rd, and the update should be available to all users by August 14th. 08/03 is when the notifications begin, but it’s worth checking for the update before you’re notified: For those who just can’t wait to get Android 2.2, there will be an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade. Customers can access the software update through their HTC EVO 4G under the Settings Menu > System Updates > HTC Software Update
